The Institutes of Micro Production Technology (IMPT) and of Production Engineering and Machine Tools (IFW) are currently developing a new process with which two grinding wheel types can be manufactured for both requirement groups of surface grinding (ultra-precision machining) and peripheral grinding (microstructuring).
The new manufacturing process for grinding wheel types means that time-consuming profiling processes in production and time-consuming dressing processes during machining - and the expensive tools associated with this - are no longer required with regard to peripheral grinding tools for microstructuring. With regard to surface grinding tools for ultra-precision machining, labor-intensive conditioning processes are also eliminated. In addition, the scientists can introduce specific abrasive grains during the manufacturing process so that they can produce structures that meet requirements.
