Philipp Müller receives EFB award for outstanding research on "Process-integrated lubrication in the downstream train"

We are pleased to announce that Philipp Müller has been awarded the EFB Prize (European Research Association for Sheet Metal Working) for his outstanding work on the project "Process-integrated lubrication in multi-stage tools ". The prize recognises the scientific achievement and innovative approaches pursued in the project.

The project, which ran from 1st February 2021 to 31st July 2023, focused on the development of process-integrated pressure lubrication for multi-stage forming processes. The aim was to reduce friction as much as possible, minimise lubricant consumption and optimise component quality.

This was achieved through the use of additively manufactured dies with integrated lubrication channels, which enabled a pressure pad-induced reduction in the forming force. This improvement in tribological conditions was further enhanced by the targeted adjustment of the lubricant viscosity and the channel geometry.

The project was carried out in close cooperation with the Institute of Product Development (IPeG), where it was supervised in part by Dr. Tobias Ehlers. Alongside Philipp Müller, Philipp Althaus also played a key role in the successful realisation of the project.

The EFB award is a proof of the scientific excellence and innovative contribution that this project has made to the further development of forming technology. We would like to congratulate Philipp Müller on this well-deserved recognition and thank everyone involved for their commitment.
